Prof. Nicola Theron is an economist and affiliate at FTI Consulting. She specializes in the application of competition and regulatory economics and is a former part-time member of the SA Competition Tribunal. She maintains an academic involvement as extraordinary professor at Stellenbosch University, Economics department, and teaches undergraduate as well as graduate courses.
Experience:
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Prof. Theron was the Managing Director of Econex, where she specialized in competition, trade and regulatory economics. In addition to competition economics, Prof Theron has specialized knowledge of healthcare, telecommunications and energy markets. She often presents on healthcare policy (such as the NHI) in various forums. Prof. Theron has lead a team that has been quantifying the cost of the NHI, since it was first proposed around 2009.
