AFSA, the Allergy Foundation of South Africa, was established by ALLSA in 2016 to enhance patient education and support and improve access to quality care.
Allergic diseases are increasingly common and complex, significantly affecting patients’ quality of life. In South Africa, barriers to effective allergy care include a shortage of trained professionals, limited access to essential medications and equipment like spacers and peak flow devices, and widespread public misconceptions about allergies.
AFSA has achieved major successes in recent years. The Training Academy offers courses for healthcare professionals, including sessions at ALLSA congresses and online Allergy Masterclasses, held eight times annually, each focusing on different allergic diseases
