With over three decades of leadership in Medical IT for Primary Healthcare, and more than a decade specialising in Occupational Health and Oncology, I bring extensive experience and a deep understanding of the healthcare technology landscape. As a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and FBPM, I am passionate about driving innovation, transformation, and meaningful digital change across Altron HealthTech’s Enterprise and Oncology business solutions.
Oncology is more than just an area of focus for me, it is a genuine passion. I am driven by the opportunity to advance digital solutions that empower healthcare practices, streamline patient care, connect healthcare ecosystems, and ultimately improve the experience and outcomes for patients. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to modernisation, integration, innovation, and building technology platforms that are not only fit for today, but help shape the future of healthcare delivery.
For me, healthcare technology is not simply about systems and software, it is about creating connected solutions that make a meaningful difference to clinicians, practices, patients, and the broader healthcare ecosystem.

Adjunct Professor Alex van den Heever holds the Chair of Social Security Systems Administration and Management Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).
He holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Cape Town and has worked in health economics, public finance, and social security policy in South Africa since 1989.
His professional experience spans roles in the Department of Finance (Central Economic Advisory Services), the Industrial Development Corporation, the Centre for Health Policy at Wits, the Gauteng Department of Health, and the Council for Medical Schemes. He has contributed to several major policy and regulatory processes, including the Melamet Commission of Inquiry into Medical Schemes (1993–94), the Committee of Inquiry into Comprehensive Social Security (2000–02), the Ministerial Task Team on Social Health Insurance (2003–05), the Medicines Pricing Committee (2007–11), and the Health Market Inquiry of the Competition Commission (2016–19). He also served as a member of the Council for Medical Schemes between 1996 and 1998.

Thoneshan Naidoo is a highly accomplished senior executive with extensive experience in leadership,
corporate governance, and driving strategic growth. With an MBA in Strategy and Marketing and an
MSc in Electrical Engineering, he has built a distinguished career across healthcare, finance, and
entrepreneurship. His professional journey highlights his ability to transform organisations, foster
innovation, and manage diverse stakeholders effectively.
In his previous role as Chief Growth Officer at eQol Holdings, Thoneshan oversaw growth strategies
across multiple industries, including energy, mining equipment, water, and education, within South
Africa and the SADC region. Previously, as Group Product Manager at Healthforce, he spearheaded
the development of an innovative healthcare software product for retail pharmacies, scaling his team
and driving substantial projected revenue growth.
As Principal Officer of Medshield Medical Scheme, Thoneshan led a financial turnaround of the
organisation, developed innovative products, and successfully navigated complex regulatory
landscapes. During his tenure as Executive Associate to the CEO of Discovery Health, he contributed
to major strategic initiatives, including market entry strategies and regulatory submissions,
enhancing operational efficiencies.
Thoneshan also has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, demonstrated by his founding of “Insanely Lit,” a
social enterprise that produced bespoke designer lighting while creating employment opportunities
and upskilling young workers. His earlier career includes leadership and consulting roles at major
organisations such as Absa/Barclays, Nedbank, Deloitte, FNB, and Sasol, where he focused on
strategic planning, operational improvements, and business growth.
He has consistently been recognised for his leadership and innovation, with achievements including
transforming Medshield’s finances, pioneering healthcare products, publishing academic research,
and participating in prestigious leadership development programmes. His academic foundation is
equally impressive, with degrees in Electrical Engineering (Cum Laude) and numerous scholarships
recognising his academic excellence. Beyond his professional life, Thoneshan is passionate about
entrepreneurship, social upliftment, and outdoor activities.
