COHSASA, based in Cape Town, works throughout Africa to strengthen, and improve health systems through the application of professional standards, quality improvement (QI) methods and accreditation.
It provides these services to a wide range of healthcare facilities. In its 29 years of operation, COHSASA has worked with over 600 facilities in both the public and private sectors in 13 countries in Africa.
The focus is on capacity building, empowering healthcare workers to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver excellent, safe care. COHSASA is the only sub-Saharan health facility accreditation body that is itself currently accredited, and has been continuously accredited since 2002, by the International Society for Quality in Health Care External Evaluation Association (ISQuaEEA), the global body overseeing external evaluation services.
